Why study in Kyrgyzstan?
Kyrgyzstan is mainly chosen by Indian students for General Medicine, the local degree that leads to a medical licence (often called MD). Several universities teach it in English, and fees at state universities are published in Kyrgyz som (KGS).
Medical education here changed a lot in 2026. The Ministry of Health now accredits every medical university. Universities that failed accreditation lose the right to enrol students and issue diplomas. The Embassy of India in Bishkek publishes the current list. Check it before you apply.
If you plan to practise in India, your course must meet the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021. Check every university against these rules yourself. NMC does not endorse any list of foreign medical universities.
- English-medium General Medicine is offered at several universities, including the state medical academy (KSMA).
- The Ministry of Health now accredits medical universities and publishes the results (May 2026).
- Fees at state universities are set by official order. KRSU's English-medium fee for 2026–27 is KGS 290,000 in year 1.
- A presidential decree of 30 April 2026 put a moratorium on tuition fee rises at universities and colleges.
- A state centre for international student admissions was set up in March 2026 to coordinate admission, visas and documents.
- The Indian Embassy in Bishkek publishes regular advisories for Indian medical students.

- To practise in India you must clear the NMC screening test (or NExT when it applies) and do a 12-month supervised internship in India.
- FMGL 2021 requires you to be registered to practise medicine in Kyrgyzstan on the same terms as Kyrgyz citizens.
- KSMA offers 2–3 year residency programmes in many specialities.
- The NMC requires the whole course, including the internship, to be done at the same foreign university.
Good to know: Since June 2026, only medical universities that passed Ministry of Health accreditation may enrol students and issue diplomas. 13 failed, including Avicenna, RMU, IMU, Salymbekov and BIMI. Jalal-Abad State University (listed here) has only a 1-year accreditation term for General Medicine (5- and 6-year) and Pharmacy. The Embassy of India said on 25.08.2026 that, on assurance from the state admissions office, students may still join it. Osh State, IUK, IHSM and Asian International University are accredited for 6 years. KSMA and KRSU were not subject to this accreditation.
Scholarships to explore
